Sorry it definitely doesn’t work for me in v3, is this exactly how you have it input?
The mastodon widget doesn’t work for me until I force clear the display cache. I’ve created an issue for that here:
Embedded HTML:
I found that Xibo generates script tags itself, so I removed the script tags for the section “HEAD content to embed” and now it works for this way.
HTML Package
I tried to make a HTML package to test, but it won’t work and I can’t found a manual to see if I made it right.
I made a file “index.html” with in de the file the following code:

I save the file and zip it. Then I rename the file to .htz and upload it to Xibo.
But when I insert it in a layout it won’t display:
I have the screen now green in the cms, so that’s nice.
Mastodon Widget:
I see the time in the Mastodonwidget noted as: 2023-09-13T13:02:23.190Z
How can I change that? I have a time notation in the widget but don’t see it on screen.

HTML package widget does not preview on the CMS, so you won’t be able to see it. It should get unpacked on the player and opened in the web engine for that player type.
We have a bug for that too:
I installed my player again (v4, newest) and noticed that version 4 is not as stable as version 3. It is doiing it’s job now. But I had a lot of errors. When they come back I upload the log.
Then I saw that the bug that the date on the mastodon widget is fixed and I changed the files that are changed on github but I still got the date unformatted. Do I mis something or do I need to wait for version 4.0.4 of the cms?

Yes I split the code in 2, the HTML part in “HTML embed” and the script without the “” tags in de HEAD content to embed.
In version 4.0.4 this is fixed, and you can put the script in the script part with the script tags.

Update:
I installed the cms v 4.0.4 but still have the problem that the date / time is not formatted, for example in the metro widget of Mastodon. Some Mastodon widgets/elements have the date formatted. Also the images are still not loaded on the player.
I installed the cms v 4.0.4 and the images in the RSS feed are not showing in the Windows player, while
the images are showing in the preview. The Titles are working fine. I use the RSS test feed below.

I installed a new pc with Windows 11 and the newest player and see that the playlist is not loaded correctly. I see the errors:
. Cache not ready
. Cannot find requiredFiles.xml (File is on the library folder on this pc)
Somethimes i get the player working by resetting many times or loading the layout again (checkout and publish). Then if it is loading I see no images at the mastodon widget and still no time formatted too. Somethimes the rss feed is loading, somethimes not…
I also installed the cms (4.0.4) complete fresh and still have this problems. Even with versio 3 of the player. In version 3 cms I have no problems. So i’m not upgrading yet cause this is feeling to buggy.

I requested a free Xibo demo from the website to check my player and layout. It seems the demo is even bad as my own cms. The layout won’t play, cache not ready, etc.
So please give me some help, and for the users, don;t use Xibo 4 for production yet.

I have a lot of the same issues DFeenstra has. I upgraded Xibo from 3.2.2 to 4.0.4 yesterday and the shit just keeps coming.
- The layouts suddeny weren’t working any longer
- clocks didn’t work
- RSS didn’t work
- Like DFeenstra I had created my own custom template for my displays you cannot do anymore.
- My clients suddenly have dozens of errors
I had to troubleshoot my 3 Layouts as none of them worked out of the box and now my playlists are all not updating so all my screens now just show the Xibo logo and no content, period. And next to that, my clients all start complaining with errors now. “5001 - no data”. I never had that before.
So, right now I have these problems:
- RSS is not displaying any content (not just no pictures but nothing at all)
- Playlists are not updating, resulting in no content being displayed at all
- My clients have dozens of “error 5001 - no data” errors
Up to now, this release of Xibo has been VERY Unimpressive.

Apologies for the issues you’re all experiencing with v4, there are definitely use cases we did not think of / know about, and in hindsight we needed to do more work on the replacement HTML/CSS/JS tools before removing them from the editing experience.
4.0.5 is due to be released on Tuesday 14th, and fixes 48 issues:

The no data error is by far the most common issue we’ve seen and is usually because the Widget Sync Task is not running. Please make sure that your tasks are running successfully and finishing with a tick as their last status.
We’re happy to look at any specific problems you’ve got to make sure the use case is solved.
Overwhelmingly we were told that HTML/CSS/JS in the layout editing experience was too complicated for users and “Xibo’s layout tools are too complicated to use, so we just use images/videos”. This is why we removed those options from the editor.
Instead we have a new set of developer tools which you can use to do the same thing, and more, but they are more “developer focused”. In 4.0 you need to edit XML files in your installation to access them.
We now have a vastly different set of feedback which is that these tools need to be accessible from inside the CMS. We will make these changes in 4.1 (you can read more out the thinking here: Improving Developer Experience in v4).
If the way version 4 is not workable for your use case, the please continue using 3.3 (which we still support/release updates for). If you do that it would be really useful to continue the dialogue here so that we can understand where the pain points are and make sure they are addressed in 4.1.
I installed the newest update and enabled the Widget sync task (somehow it was disabled), now Xibo is working better, but still have this issues:
XMR
I have Xibo 3 running with XMR (php 7.4), and using this XMR also for Xibo 4.05, but cannot catch screenshots at once. Is this because I use php 7.4 for the XMR? XMR is running correct in Xibo 3.
Also I see that date formatting for Mastodon widget is still not working…
You should be able to use a single XMR instance to service multiple CMS instances and their players. The v3 XMR version will work with v4.
I’m not sure why your screenshots aren’t returning - you’d first need to be sure that your v4 connected players are receiving XMR heartbeats correctly.
Date formatting for Mastodon was fixed in 4.0.5, and I can also confirm its working in 4.0.6 which we released yesterday.
I requested a demo on xibosignage.com and tested the mastodon widgets. I see no data formatting there either. In the elements the date is formatted in de widgets not. I tried Template 2 and the Metro template/widget of Mastodon. So I conclude that date formatting is not working on the widgets only the elements. Hope it’ll be fixed soon.
