Windows pptx issues

HI, so using 1.7.9. without any issues for over 2 years.

However something changed in environment and right now all players (windows 10, office 2016) dont display powerpoint anymore. They download files, etc. but instead display “navigation canceled”. They even open pptx in the background but not cycle properly.

I was able to right click that windows and I have

I went 3 times through all registry changes and they are there. Same for filetypesman associations.

Is this something that can be fixed

I assume the powerpoint itself is enabled in the display profile assigned to your devices?

Display Settings page → Edit display profile assigned to your devices → Enable PowerPoint?

Full Office with PowerPoint itself installed on the PC with Xibo player and those changes added as well - PowerPoint media items show a "Navigation Cancelled" error when running on the Windows Player / PowerPoint brings up an Open Dialog

There isn’t much more that could be changed to stop .pptx from working if they were fine before.

Do any changes were made to the CMS/ player PCs recently?

If it was working and now it isn’t with the same versions, then presumably some changes had to be made somewhere.

Could you explain it to us please, perhaps with a screenshot, are there any log messages in the player status window / CMS log page?

Hi, so got it to work but only on one machine, working one has those regedit/filetype mods:

However applying this to second one does not help? It opens powerpoint but in the background in (as not displaying presentation mode).

On both machines first run restarts through watchdog.

While on second machine supposedly no errors (pressed I) and it opens pptx, it never displays it, instead white screen with navigation cancel

On the PC where it does not work, could you please:

Navigate to display settings page, create a new display profile with auditing log level
Navigate to displays page → Edit display in question → Advanced tab → assign the created auditing display profile and enable auditing on the display itself.

That will make the player send a lot more messages to the CMS.

I’d also like to see a screenshot of the status window on the player when the issue occurs, as well as relevant logs form the CMS Log page about this display.

Now,

Prepare Layout Failed. Exception raised was: Default layout
That would imply an issue with the default layout, however if the default layout for this display is the one with powerpoint presentation it could just mean that it had to download it.

General side note, it is recommended that default layout for the displays is something very simple, not often changed, the idea is that player shows default layout only when there is nothing else scheduled or if there is a problem with scheduled content.

That could be an issue, could you check if that file exists in the player local library and that it has up to date content in it?

I assume both players are 1.7.9 and that there is one Xibo player per physical device in your setup?
Are there any significant differences between those two PCs?

Hi, default layout background image + super simple 80kb pptx + jpg as rotation.

This is log with auditing enabled, client still has layout changes issues

I switched so first it shows JPG, after this PPTX, however it just goes to “navigation to the webpages was canceled” after initial JPG showing correctly.
PPTX is open, however its in background, and in “slide sorter” view.

What I tried now is to setup default action for pptx as Show (F3 in filetypesman) instead of Open.
Window however does not focus and instead I watch full screen white “navigation to the webpages was canceled”.

You can close this - resolved. New installation of powerpoint had binary key instead of dword.

I see, so those registry entries were not the same, I was under the assumption that you’ve checked that earlier.

Although as you’ve shared only the registry view from the working PC, perhaps I should ask you there to compare those

After that I assumed that the entries are the same in both PCs.

In any case, I’m glad you were able to find and fix it on the second PC as well, I shall close this topic now.
