Random freezes on windows xibo client

Hello,

I have a problem with random freezes on a windows client.

It doesn’t happen regularly, sometimes it’s ok for 2 or 3 days, sometimes it’s multiple times a day.
It always freezes when changing layout during a campaign. All my layouts use videos.

The client is on the latest version (1.8.3) and the cms is version 1.8.4.

The client is installed on an Intel nuc NUC6CAYH with windows 10 LTSB and all the latest drivers and updates.

I don’t have any error messages, be it on the client or in the CMS.
I use shareX to record the screen and see exactly when it happens ( it takes a screenshot every 5 seconds), that’s how i know it’s always at the end (or start) of a layout.

I also use a beelink bt pro3 as client, but never had these problems ( but some others related to windows 10).

The client has to be killed (no info with the ‘i’ key) , but the watchdog works fine.

I have the log files but can’t upload them here (csv from the cms and xml from the client).

What could cause this?

Thanks

You might want to enable auditing on the display to get it send more logs to the CMS (and show more logs on the player status window as well)

It could be also good to open Windows Task Manager when players encounters this issue to see memory usage.

Could you also show us an example specification of the videos that you’re using (format, bitrate etc)

Auditing is already on, but i can’t see any error messages, or other strange messages. On the client, the xml files are different after the freeze (less infos, but they are still being created), on the cms, the logs seems to be the same after the freeze.

At the moment I’m taking a screenshot every five seconds, so I have a 5 second frame to look at. I’m going to take a screenshot every second, so the timeframe is even shorter.

It happened again this afternoon, task manager indicates 112mb ram consumption ( of 4gb total) and 0,1% CPU. Xibo is marked as ‘not responding’.

Some video example:
mp4, 832kbps, 1920x1088
mp4, 1,10mbps, 1920x1088
mp4, 458kbps, 640x368

Can I share the cms logs and xml files here? Or are there any infos in these files that shouldn’t be public?

Could it be hardware related? The NUC is new, with a 120gb (cheap) SSD and 4Gb RAM

Thanks

Interesting, so that does not appear to be memory issue then.

Are all drivers up to date? Especially GPU driver?

I wonder if such short screenshot interval isn’t actually causing problems, or was it the same before you set the interval to 5s?

You can, although it could be better to send them to me over private message (depending which logs will you share they can contain information about your environment).

It could be, although it seems unlikely at the moment, certainly does not seem like a memory issue, could be WMP issue, I’d expect to see some logs about it if that was the case though.

I was displaying Xibo on a secondary display, with a specific profile.
I have switched back to one main display and the default profile, and haven’t had a problem since then.
