Player 1.7.9 TOO good at being in front?

I have just installed a new computer with Windows Player 1.7.9 (I already have another computer running version 1.7.6). I find, however, that the new version is “too good” at keeping itself in focus. In the older version, I can minimize everything including the player with Windows+D, or run the Task Manager and have it be in front of the Player window. With the new version, I have no choice except to kill the process from the task bar any time that I want to do anything else on the computer. Is this intended behavior? Is it possible to configure?

Yes, it is, because we had many requests to make Xibo always in the foreground.

As it is the device on which you have Xibo for Windows installed, should be used only for that purpose - of course you can kill the process if you need to access something else - but it will be restarted by Watchdog unless you close/rename it.

Basically it’s good for digital signage, a bit inconvenient for ‘normal’ use.

Which release implemented this first? I think the new version will be good once I have my whole system up and running, but in the development phase, it’s a bit inconvenient.

1.7.8 I think, 1.7.7 should not have this setting.

You can also go to display settings page -> edit display profile assigned to your device -> location tab -> change the dimensions(and offset) so it doesn’t cover full screen - you will probably want to create new display profile with specific dimensions and then change between them if needed.

This way it should be a bit easier to navigate during dev phase.

I, for one, welcome this feature. All the hoops we needed to jump through before to get the window to stay on top was overly complicated. There are many threads dedicated to the work-arounds required to keep Xibo as the top window.

I think the need to open task manager or do work on the PC while Xibo is running is a bit unique.

Ease of use for a running presentation is the right priority. Task Manager, Event Viewer, and other PC management tools could be run remotely. PerfMon.exe is still a very viable way to capture data from a running machine, also.

If you want to run other applications while Xibo is open (in a development mode for example) you can press the “i” key to bring up the player status screen, which will disable the “always on top” mode.

Ok, perfect. I agree that it’s best to have it always on top in Prod, but nice to know I can disable it during Dev.
