PDF Size Limit Issue?

I’ve been experimenting with Xibo and PDF’s and running into a bit of an issue.

PDF’s upload and store correctly, I can add them to layouts and campaigns and preview it just fine; however once I send it to the client it doesn’t always work. The client will however show pictures and video.

With some experimenting it’s shown that it happens almost exclusively with PDF’s over 4MB, and if we delete the majority of the pages in the PDF we can get the first couple pages to play.

I tried looking to see if 4 MB was a hard size limit on PDF’s and Xibo, but I couldn’t find anything other than the general maximum file size.

Is there a way to get larger PDF’s to work without converting it to another format?

That’s…interesting, there are no hard limits as far as I’m aware (other than max upload of course).

Could you please let me know on which player have you experienced this issue? (Windows/android and version please)

If you could send the bigger .pdf that does not play for you via private message we will test here locally.

Thanks for the quick reply!

The issue was occuring on the Windows Player, on version 1.8.1

I’ll send one of the bigger PDF’s we were testing

I was trying to upload the same magazine that I was using, however it states that because I’m a new user I’m unable to upload!

I was testing with PDF’s off of here though: http://magazinelib.com/all/bbc-sky-at-night-june-2017/ with very little success in getting them to play through Xibo

It seems to be an issue on windows clients indeed, we will investigate it and see if there is anything we can do to improve that.

As a side note, the bigger .pdf files work just fine on android client.

Edit: We may have found the issue behind it, I’ve logged it here https://github.com/xibosignage/xibo/issues/1202

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
