Install 1.8.1 on webhost

Hi

Please let me start with congratulate you for the nice system you have built! I have searched a lot for different digital signage solutions the last months, and I decided to use Xibo. It does exactly what our school needs, and its free. Thank you!

I had installed 1.7.9 a while ago. I just downloaded it from your website and uploaded the folder via FTP to a subdomain on my personal webhost. This was for testing purpose.

Now I would start with the real system so I was going to install 1.8.1 to a subdomain on my school’s webhost. I now see that the zip file on your site does not has an index.php and install.php file anymore like it had in 1.7.9. Is it still possible to instal Xibo on your own webhost?

I have now uploaded the folder via ftp, but when I navigate to the domain, I’ll only get this:

What can I do to solve this?

Thanks for helping me out
Kind regards
Laurent

This has been covered many times already. Please do search through the threads relating to this.

The short answer is yes you can, but you need control of the webserver’s web root so you can change it to the “web” directory in the source.

Hi,

Thanks for the help!

I have checked http://xibo.org.uk/manual/en/install_environment.html#placing_cms_files
There is a lot I haven’t heard of yet, but I assume I don’t need to do everything here?

What I now have done is the following:

  • I placed the whole cms in the public_html folder
  • I moved the htaccess file from the “web-folder” to the “public_html-folder”
  • I edited the htaccess file from “#RewriteBase /xibo” to “#RewriteBase /web”

I assume this last step was wrong, because I now have a 404 error when surfing to the website.

Is there anything else I need to do?

Sorry for asking a lot, but I don’t understand the new way of installing yet.
Thanks again!
Laurent

That won’t work.

The webserver’s web root needs to be altered to point to the web directory (per the guide you link to). You can’t just put the whole CMS inside your public_html folder. All the steps in the guide are important.
