I have a capture card server set up in Windows Server 2012 R2 and am wanting to stream to windows 7 clients. I have seen a post in here where they set up an RTMP stream, but it was fairly vague. At this point, I’m not picky about the protocol. It can be RTSP or RTMP, but as long as I give the A/V to the client displays, I’m happy.
Has anyone had any experience with setting up this configuration to stream this way? It doesn’t have to be a complicated configuration. Simply a full-page layout that streams the A/V.
I’ll provide more info upon request.
The Xibo server is running 1.7.4 on Ubuntu 14.04 Server
The capture card server is running Win2012 r2
The xibo clients are running Win7 and are on version 1.7.4
It could be a bit easier on Android with RTSP stream in local video module, on windows client, you could perhaps try vlc web plugin and then embedded it in Xibo, I think we had some reports of this working on this site. You could search for that and perhaps ask someone who made it work how they did it.
I guess I should clarify what I’ve done and where I am currently.
Testing out the capture card, I was able to set up a simple Window Media Encoder that delivered mms:// to any client that could use it. That worked on windows PCs with Windows Media Player. It wouldn’t work for Xibo to my knowledge. Also, Windows Media Encoder wasn’t entirely stable, so I went from Win8.1 to Win2012 r2 to set up IIS for the capture card server. Supposedly, this will be much more stable once configured. Not sure how to create the stream in IIS, as documentation seems vague for media streaming via RTSP. So that piece is still up for debate about the best way to deliver a stream that Xibo could use.
Once that is in place, I guess the next step is getting xibo to like the layout and the Win7 clients to use it.
Thanks!
Well I think it seems like a nice idea, the thing is that this kind of streaming content is not something that we ‘support’ that’s why I can’t really give you one good answer on how to achieve what you want, it’s possible that someone from community tried that (or similar) so hopefully you will get more input on this issue.
Anyway if you would be able to make it work, we would love to hear about it and then it might be a good idea to perhaps write a guide about it for community. It’s always great to have some nice ideas from community members
I’ll actually be compelled to write a guide so those that follow me in my job will be able to duplicate the process if something goes awry. Currently, I’m just looking for the pieces (baby steps) to make “this part” and “that part” work, and then build it into something that works together.
Marshall: see my pm & let me know if that works for you. I was one of the folks who has successfully used RTMP to stream some stuff. It’s a bit hacky, but it works for “at-the-office” use.
Excellent! I don’t want to post your PM, as they are your words. Feel free to post the PM to me in here, with whatever changes you feel would be appropriate. Perhaps it would help others.
Perhaps you should work together on some kind of guide about this?
Anyway, if any of you, or both of you could come up with something that might be helpful to the community, it would be great to share it in the guide section of this site, we would greatly appreciate it.
Hey guys. Yeah I will certainly post the instructions I sent to Marshall. Figure I will format for clarity a bit, etc. I was a bit apprehensive given the hacked- together nature of the solution, but it’s worked for a few months now, at the very least.
I’m also agreeable to this as well. As I’m getting pieces of it together, I’m looking at documenting what actually works once it is all in place. Thanks!
