Gigg board webpage displaying Blank/Black screen

Hey all,

So Ive been having this issue for a few days now and I’m still scratching my head.I have read through the forums and some items have helped me out but not with this specific site. I dont know if i can post it here but its a gigg board page.

  1. The preview, in xibo, works fine.
  2. The display is set to ‘Best Fit’
  3. I can display https://xibo.org.uk on the client and in the preview
  4. The .htm file gets downloaded and i can open that up fine on the client.
  5. I get an error “Layout Change failed exception was raised. ‘Default Layout’” “Exception in run: Could not find file C:…\xibo library\requiredFiles.xml” which i confirmed is on the client.

I’m stumped…any help would be awesome!

Hi bone scripting, welcome to the Xibo Forum!

The directory mentioned in your Exception suggests that you are using a Xibo for Windows Player, can you confirm the Version of the Player as well as the Version of your CMS? Also what Version of Windows are you using?

Please note that when you preview a Layout in your CMS that contains a webpage, the Browser you are using will be responsible for rendering that page in your Preview. With this in mind, Xibo for Windows currently uses Internet Explorer to display web content, which is likely not the same browser you use to access your CMS and preview your Layouts.

I would first recommend changing your webpage widget to Open Natively instead of Best Fit. Can you confirm if this effects the Playback of the webpage?

Making a change to the Layout should also encourage the Display to download the files it requires again, which may also resolve the error you received about not being able to locate the requiredfiles.xml.

Many Thanks.

Hey Dan,
Thanks for the welcome!
Yes i am using the windows player.
Version of player: 1.7.5
Version of CMS: 1.7.9
Version of Windows: 1809 x64 EDU

Yeah I use chrome for my daily browser, I can change the default apps for the player to IE 11 to see if that will help it out as well as the Open Natively.

Its odd to me though that best fit and chrome displayed the xibo webpage no problem. Might be a red herring though.

Thank yo for confirming your are using 1.7.9 CMS and 1.7.5 player. These are much older versions of the Xibo Player and CMS. It’s hard to judge the performance of the webpage based on Preview for the reasons mentioned in my previous message but trying to view the webpage using IE11 is a good idea to see if the performance is different.

Is the webpage you are trying to view confidential? If possible could you pass on the URL, in a Private message if you prefer so I can also test this to see what may be causing the issue?

Many Thanks.

Yeah for sure. The story behind why its an old version is because our AV/MM tech decided Xibo was a better solution to what we had. So he spun it up and then left leaving me to support it and i know nothing of this software or the back end. We are currently looking at updating to the newest so we at least know things and have some documentation.

I also talked to our marketing folks, they are the ones with the link, and seeing if there is another link that we can use because I suspect that its not ‘public’ per say.

yes, can you shoot me a pm, Im a noob member and dont have permissions :sob:

Im going to close this out. I found out that the url will not work with IE11 as its being sunset.
