Edge not working

Hi,

I have a number of sites that I would like to display through Xibo but can’t as they require a browser version newer than the last version of IE. Today I discovered that there is a new Xibo Client (v2-edge) which will let me display the reports from these pages, but… Either my layouts are buried in snow or something isn’t working properly.

The Client opens and the splash screen is displayed, then the Windows Desktop comes up followed by a white screen. Pressing I does not bring up the status window, the data seems to have synchronised from the CMS to the client machine and the Current Layout in Display on CMS stays blank.

I have checked for logs and I cannot find any either on the client machine or the CMS. I was able to find the following in the Windows Event Log:

Could you please help. I’m sure there must be some loging within Zibo which would help but I’m unable to find it.

Thanks

Did you install via the MSI installer? And are you using Windows 10?

Can you try opening an administrator powershell and running this:

CheckNetIsolation.exe LoopbackExempt -s

And then print the output here.

Then run:

CheckNetIsolation LoopbackExempt -a -n="Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe"

And try the Player application again.

Did you install via the MSI installer?
Yes, I used the .msi

And are you using Windows 10?
Yes, Windows 10 Enterprise x64

Can you try opening an administrator powershell and running this:

CheckNetIsolation.exe LoopbackExempt -s

And then print the output here.

PS C:\Users\Xibo> CheckNetIsolation.exe LoopbackExempt -s

OK.

And try the Player application again.
Same issue althoough I can now bring up the status screen and it shows ‘Agent Threads/XMR is dead, not updating status.json’ XMR is working for other screens. The Firewall is disabled so it’s not that.

Thanks for your help,

TPipJo

I know this is a pain, but would you be able to install the non-edge player on the same PC to see if there is a general problem.

Just trying to narrow down the possible causes as i’m really not sure why the edge build would be failing like that. The exemptions look fine.

My only other thought is whether you have .NET Framework 4.7.2 or later (the MSI should check this, so I am sure you to).

I’ve uninstalled v2-edge and installed v2, this is working as expected.

Checking .Net I have .Net 4.8 installed (Windows 10 v.1903) which will not allow you to install earlier versions (4.8 should be compatible with 4,7,2).

Thanks

TPipJo

Hmm - thanks for trying.

I think for the moment we might have to do some rework on edge - we’ve had some very different experiences with it from different users.

We will make an update when we have something new to try.

Thanks
