Datasets - Data Type Image

We are working with the datasets, but not fully understanding how to use the Data Type “Image.” We are using version 1.7.9

From the manual online, it does not list the Data Type IMAGE
(see page: http://xibo.org.uk/manual/en/media_datasets.html).

However, in v1.7.9 CMS the data type IMAGE is available. Searching the community we see there’s a comment regarding the data type for image with some tweaks still needed (see page: 1.8 alpha2 - Dataset Library Image Cannot be removed).

Our thinking is that once the Data Type has been selected as IMAGE, we will list the names for the image options within the Content Lists separated by commas. This will then allow us to restrict the permissions for users to only change the Content Lists option from the dropdown titles we created. However, how do we associate what these Content Lists titles represent for an image? The real question, how do we tie in the link for the image from the library to these titles?

We have a feeling we’re missing something. We simply want the user to choose from a dropdown menu which image to display and have it appear in the region.

In 1.7 series, the Image data type in dataSet is only for external images ie urls to files hosted elsewhere.

In 1.8 series (the topic you linked is from an early 1.8 alpha version) you can also use internal images in dataSet - ie select images from the CMS library.

In your case, you’d need to either wait for full 1.8 release, or try current 1.8.0-rc3 (not recommended for production environment yet).
