4k UHD Layout Displaying as 1080p

Hello,

I’ve got an issue displaying a 4k layout whereas it will only show the Screen Size as 1920 x 1080 or when I manually enter the Screen Dimension on the profile, it will then go to 1920 x 1008. The Xibo player is set to 4k resolution in the settings.

Products in use:
Xibo Player: DSCS9
TV: LG UK6300PLB 49" Ultra HD 4K TV
OS: Android

CMS Version 1.8.7
Android version 1.8-108

Any thing you can think of will be a great help.

Thanks,
Ben

Can you confirm the resolution you have set for your Layout? You can check this by selcting the Layout option in your CMS, clicking the down facing triangle at the end of the Layout and choosing Edit from the menu. You will find the Resolution on the Background tab.

Many Thanks.

Hiya,

I’ve set it to the resolution that was already set up, 4k UHD Landscape which within the Resolutions page is 3840x2160.

Thanks,
Ben

I’ve also just created a new Resolution for 4k, in case the other one was dodgy and it’s still not outputting to 4k.

Thanks,
Ben

Some pictures of the settings and what not.

Thank you for the screenshots and further information. The reason you are experiencing this behaviour is due to the DSCS9 device and how 4K content is handled.

The DSCS9 runs at 1080p but is capable of outputting 4K content by upscaling 1080p. What this means is that when 4K content is scheduled to the device, it will be downscaled to 1080p, then upscaled to 4K and output to the screen. This is why you are seeing the 1080p resolution on your device.

This is mentioned on the Recommended Android hardware Guide under the entry for the DSCS9.

Many Thanks.

Thanks Dan. I didn’t realise that was a thing, but I’m glad you mentioned it. We’ve had several DSCS9 devices but this is the first 4k attempt, so I didn’t think to check the guide sheet.

So if I had standard 1080p content, pictures etc, then a 4k video it would keep everything 1080p then when the video appears, it will upscale just that one item to the 4k res?

Thanks,
Ben
