1 second blank screen at beginning of playlist

Server: 4.2.3 docker on ubuntu
Client: v4-405.3-win32
I have a couple layouts with 1 JPG file each in them both are 1920x1080, I have them both set to a 10 second duration. One of them will show 1 second of the background every 10 seconds, the other one just looks like a static image on the screen. I figure this must have something to do with durations settings in the image, playlist or layout but I cannot for the life of me figure out what the deal is.

Hi sptcbob,

Welcome to Xibo Community!

To check my understanding of the issue, you have 2 layouts where in each one you have an image (JPG file), both the images have the same resolution of 1920 x 1080. If you scheduled both the layouts with dayparting set as always, the layout you scheduled first will show first, and there will be a quick black screen in between layouts, given that the background color is set to black. This is normal behavior since the player needs to ready the layout before showing it on your player. Please note that at the moment, Xibo for Windows (XfW) does not support gapless playback.

My recommendation:
To minimize the black screen showing on each image,

  1. Create a single layout and then put in a playlist.
  2. Inside the playlist, add your 2 images.
  3. On each of the image entries on the playlist, right-click to set ‘in’ and ‘out’ transitions.
  4. Configure the transitions to be 1000 milliseconds, or 1 second. This way there will be a smooth black transition fading in and fading out on each image.
  5. Under the Advanced tab, tick ‘Set a duration?’ and fill in your desired duration for how long the image should display on the screen before switching to the next image.
  6. Finally, schedule that single layout with a playlist containing the 2 images on your target display.

Here is a short video of the result when I created a playlist with images and set transitions on the images.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Thank you for the reply, I’ll give it a shot.
