1.8.3 has broken ticker widget

Hi All,

I updated from 8.2 to 8.3 yesterday using docker, since then I’ve had major issues with a widget that was working fine.

It’s simply a ticker cycling through 6 BBc news rss story’s.

Now it seems that ‘Number of items per page’ has no effect and it will simply display however many items is listed in ‘Number of items’, it then just sits there until it’s timer is up.

I’ve tried deleting the ticker and recreating. As well as playing with all the normal settings.

Can anyone help? I’m looking at going back to 1.8.2 as this has ruined the displays.

Thanks.

Can you share the layout please so we can see this?

Sorry but how do I share the layout?

Export the layout from the CMS, upload it somewhere (dropbox, Google drive etc), and then post a link to it please.

It would also be worth going to the Modules page in the CMS, and running the “Verify All” routine there. Just in case the updated files weren’t copied for some reason during the upgrade process.

Verified came back OK. Strangely other tickers are working ok, although I did have to mess around a lot with the Twitter ticker to get that working after the upgrade.

I’ve removed a few confidential slides but this still shows the error, I’ve made the ticker the first slide.
The behaviour shows in preview, design and on the Android screens.

I have a feeling I may need to trash it and do a clean install…
Thanks for looking.

I’ve imported that on a 1.8.2 and 1.8.3 CMS and I see no difference to the BBC widget.

1.8.2:

1.8.3:

The number of items per page etc will only be respected when you have a transition effect set. You have it set to “None” currently. You’ll need to set that to “Fade” for example, and then only one item is shown at a time.

Wow, so simple when you know…
I changed that thinking ‘none’ would just flick from one to the next.

We will try to improve the way these options are presented to make it clearer:

May also be worth having a ‘no effect’ option to save CPU.

We will most likely go for something like this in that effect list:
