MS Teams Rooms Windows Integration

Hi, I have just spun up Xibo in a new instance to deploy Digital Signage across our many Microsoft Teams Hubs around our offices.

To my surprise, Xibo doesn’t seem to offer any kind of browser based player support, making them impossible to use with Teams Rooms.

Has anyone found a way around this? I was hoping I could install the windows client on the hubs and then reference a localhost in the URL of Teams Rooms Digital Signage.

Without a Teams Rooms integration, we cannot use Xibo I’m afraid.

Hi agb,

At the moment, Xibo does not have any connector or integration set up for Microsoft Teams Hub with CMS. However, you are welcome to provide the details of your use case, and I will submit it as a feature request to our developers for consideration. We would appreciate as many details as you can provide for our developers to better understand your use case and the benefits of the feature you are requesting. Just a heads-up, once the request is submitted, it will go through stages before approval (it may or may not be approved depending on its impact on Xibo and on the overall CMS users, also, with other factors that need to be considered).

Hope to hear from you soon.

Kind regards,

Hi JerryW,

Thank you for your reply and information.

We’re an IT team that was really excited to roll out Xibo across all our office screens. We love the power and control your CMS offers. But we’ve hit a major roadblock: we can’t get Xibo to work on our Microsoft Teams Rooms (MTR) devices, and there’s no option for a simple web-based player.

This was a huge surprise and is unfortunately a deal-breaker for us right now.

Here’s the problem we’re facing:

  • Wasted Screens: We have all these expensive, nice-looking MTR screens in our meeting rooms, receptions and along the open office areas, that are just sitting there displaying the time when they’re not in a meeting. We want to put them to work showing company announcements, dashboards, and welcome messages.
  • Can’t Manage Everything in One Place: The whole point of using a CMS like Xibo is to control all our screens from one spot. If we can’t include our MTRs, which is the vast majority of our screens (21 MTR + 10 Barco Clickshare devices at present), we have an incomplete and messy setup.
  • Locked-Down Devices: We have some devices that are locked down. We use GoGet One Meeting Room Android devices outside meeting rooms to indicate their availability. They can display Digital Signage over a website but we cannot install apk files or any other software directly to it. A Xibo web-player would be able to circumvent this and let us integrate with it.

What we’d love to see:

A Xibo Player for Teams Rooms

It would be amazing if you could build a player that we can install on our MTR devices. Here’s what it could look like:

  • Official Teams Rooms Digital Signage Partner Integration: WIKI

ALTERNATIVE WEBBASED SOLUTION:

  • Runs in the background: It should show our Xibo content whenever the MTR isn’t in a call.
  • Plays nice with meetings: As soon as a meeting starts or someone touches the screen, the Xibo content should disappear and let Teams do its thing. This is already a native feature to MTR Digital Signage.
  • Works like any other player: We want to see it in our Xibo dashboard, schedule content, and check its status just like our other screens.
  • Follows MS requirements for third party providers for custom Digital Signage WIKI

Why this is a great idea for Xibo:

  • You’d get a ton more customers: So many businesses run on Microsoft. This opens the door to all of them.
  • Make your current users happy: We can’t be the only ones asking for this!
  • Keep up with the competition: It closes a big gap that other signage companies are using to their advantage. XoGo and AppSpace already has native integrations.
  • Make trying Xibo super easy: A web player means anyone could test-drive Xibo instantly on any computer or screen.

We’re really hoping you’ll consider building these features. We believe in your product and think these additions would make Xibo the undisputed best choice for corporate digital signage.

I’m happy to chat more and share details about our setup if it helps.

Thanks for listening!

Hi agb,

Thank you for providing your use case in detail. I have submitted a feature request to our developers on your behalf for consideration. We appreciate your ideas and feedback. In case the feature gets considered, you may track if it gets included in the next releases of the players and CMS by visiting our Xibo Blog.

Kind regards,

Thank you, JerryW!

For now we’ll probably shut down the instance again, and rebuild it as soon as a Teams Rooms solution is in place. I’ll keep an eye on the Blog for future

Thank you for taking this suggestion forward!
