The Setup - Layout has 6 separate sub-playlist regions (I may refer to these as “slots”). Each region is pulling two different playlists. #1 on each region is a playlist labeled Emptyslot which contains a transparent png. I’ll get back to this in a bit. The #2 playlist on each region is set up with a tag filter corresponding to the slot/region that it associates with. So, slot 1/6 has two playlists, #1 is emptyslot and #2 (Branch Name) Promo Slot 1. Branch managers have access to a media folder, so that they can go in and tag marketing materials to display on the 6 regions. Because the #2 playlist on each region filters media by the tag, our managers can just change the tags to change the media. If they remove a tag, and playlist #2 doesn’t show anything, it will go to playlist #1 which is my transparent png. I did this because when it was pulling an empty playlist (#2) it was going to my default screen. When I upload our marketing material, I go through and edit each one’s duration, from the media screen by clicking the drop down and clicking “edit”, to 28800 (8hrs). I did this so that it won’t play as a slideshow, it will just show that image for the day. The collection interval for this particular display is 5 minutes, so if they change a tag it can go ahead and update shortly after… this is not always what’s happening.
The issue – seemingly randomly, when a tag is removed from one image, applied to another, the display will not update with the newly tagged image. When I go to edit or preview the layout in Xibo, the change seems to have worked. I’m guessing it has to do something with the display, so when I go look over the status/authorized/logged in/last accessed info, I see no issues. I have even gone as far as looking at the backend of our network and I can see the display has a good connection and everything. The issue isn’t consistent with a certain file type, playlist, region, or anything. The only thing that seems to update it is for me to check out the layout, then publish it. The display then refreshes and the media is updated. I’m not too sure what else to do to resolve the issue. If there is a better setup for these functions, please let me know!
