I have 3 full screen graphics to schedule. Only one of them is active at a time. I was planning on having the default layout be the one that is used the most.

But how do I have the other 2 graphics override it on a specific day without tons of scheduling?

Here is an example week 1:

M-Th Graphic 1
F - Graphic 2
Sa and Su - Graphic 3

Another example week 2:
M-Th Graphic 2
Fr - Sa - Graphic 3
Su - Graphic 1

and they go on from there.

What is a good way to tackle this the Xibo way?

Thanks!

Hi drewman77, welcome to the community!

If I have understood your request correctly, you are asking how to display one of three graphics (by this do you mean layouts or scheduling the media directly?). There are some details that I hoped you could elaborate on.

I would first recommend against using your default layout for displaying your events. The default layout is designed to be a backup layout, for when you have nothing to display, or in the event there is an issue with your scheduled events/media. I would encourage you to create a simple default layout for this use case and instead use the schedule page in your CMS to configure when the media/graphics/layouts you want to display will appear.

I will focus on week one and I will create example events that will demonstrate how you could do this. The events I create will be based on next week, so Monday 23rd June through to Sunday 29th June.

Graphic 1: Monday (23rd) from midnight until Thursday (26th) at 23:59:

Graphic 2: Friday (27th) from midnight until 23:59:

Graphic 3: Saturday (28th) from midnight until Sunday (29th) at 23:59:

If you want these events to repeat in two weeks, set the Repeats tab on each events to this:

This is how the events look in the schedule grid view:

You can use the same principle for week 2, except you would use the week after to set those events (Monday 30th June - Sunday 6th July).

I hope this helps you to understand how to create a schedule for your displays, without using your default layout, so that you know what graphics will show on what days, plus the scheduled events will repeat themselves so that you do not need to create new events for every week.

Thank you for taking the time for the in-depth response!

However, there is no real repeating pattern here. I was giving two weeks showing how different they are from each other, but there are more like 15 combinations.

With my current software, Haivision Coolsign, I can edit one of their channels (kinda like a playlist) and assign start and stop times for each entry in the channel. I can repeat the same media when needed by copying and pasting it in the playlist and then editing the start and stop times for it.
It makes it as painless as possible.

Is there any Xibo workflow that approximates that?

Here are 3 example months of the schedule I’m trying to do.

Is it possible to drive what content is shown from an external calendar ics?

Hi drewman77, my sincere apologies for my delayed reply.

It is possible to add items to a playlist multiple times, and you can also set expiration dates on the items in the playlist, so that they appear and disappear based on those expiration start and end times.
For example, you can see in my screenshot that if I right click on an item in a playlist, there is an Edit expiry date option:

So you could set up your playlist with your media, set expiry dates on the items you want to start and end at set times, then schedule that to your display so that the playlist always shows.

This is not possible. The schedule page in your CMS holds the functionality that determines what layouts will display at what times.
