Is there an easy guide for getting one of these up and running. It boots and gets to a menu but I don’t appear to be able to control - no remote or anything 
something obvious I’m missing!

The DSCS9 does not come with its own remote as it is controlled by keyboard/mouse. If you do experience further issues after plugging these in, then do come back to us.
