Email notification issue

Hi Everyone,

Using CMS v4.1.2, self-hosted with docker installation.

Facing a weird problem where the email notification does not work when the email of user in their profile is same as the email set in the Settings>>Network >> Admin email address

Email notification works perfectly as far as these two emails are not the same.

Appreciate developer team if could verify if this is a bug or something wrong in my setup?

TIA

Hi, just to clarify have you got a different email in the Settings>>Network>>Sending email name or using the same?

Hi @natasha

If I used two different emails, then I’m able to receive the notifications. However if I use same email for both user profile and Admin email in the Network settings, then I will not receive any notification.

Hope my answer clarified the scenario.

Thank you,
Alex

Could you please elaborate on the steps you took to produce the issue you encountered?

We successfully tested the password reminder functionality by following these steps:

  1. User Creation: We enabled the password reminder feature in the settings (1), provided the admin email address in the network tab (2), and created a user with the same email address (3).
  2. We also set the User Group Notifications to receive system notifications (4).
  3. Password Reset: We then attempted to reset the password for the user with the same admin email address.

Result: The system successfully sent a reminder email to the admin inbox, confirming that the password reset process was working as expected.

Hi @israt.farzana

Thanks for sharing your test scenario. Below I will explain my setup
1- I have one Super admin user only and no additional users. the super admin email has been set in the profile
2- I set a noreply@mydomain.com to send emails using smtp (i used my actual domain in setting)
3- Password reset is working fine for this user and able to receive email
4- same super admin email has been set in the Network tab of Settings to receive the notifications
5- In the user management, enabled to receive the system and display notifications for the user

the user is not receiving any email when the display is offline more than the Time out setting.

Appreciate your time and support
Alex

Thank you for providing detailed information about your setup, Alex. Based on what you’ve shared, it seems that most of your configuration is correct. However, there are a few things we can check to troubleshoot why you’re not receiving offline display notifications:

  1. The normal behaviour is that you should receive notifications when a display goes offline and when it comes back online. Reference
  2. Check your CMS Settings on the Maintenance tab to ensure that Email Alerts are enabled and properly configured.
  3. Verify that the Max Display Timeout setting is appropriate for your setup. This determines how long a display can be offline before an alert is sent.
  4. Confirm that the Admin email address and Sending email address are correctly set up in the Network tab of the CMS Settings
  5. For individual displays, make sure that Email Alerts is set to “Yes” on the Maintenance tab of the display settings.
  6. Enable the Notifications feature set for the Users and User Groups in the Notifications tab

  7. Check CMS Logs: Look for any error messages related to sending emails or display notifications

Hi Alex,

After investigating further, it seems that only the display offline email notifications are being sent, and the online notifications are missing. We have logged an issue for this bug.

We recommend checking for any updates or fixes related to this bug in future versions. You can track the progress on this issue here: Email: Not receiving emails when display becomes online · Issue #3611 · xibosignage/xibo · GitHub

I ran into this bug over the weekend. I migrated from a custom v3 install to docker v4. I thought there was an issue with my docker settings. Is there a temporary fix?

Hello, I have been dealing with this issue for a few days and no one has helped. Can you please help me @israt.farzana

I installed xibo on a web server and downloaded the android player and successfully connected it to my android device. The content I want to send is reflected on my android screen. As you can understand, everything works fine but there is one thing that is not working. Whatever I did, I couldn’t send a command to my Android screen, does anyone have any information? According to some forums, I need to open port 9505 as tcp. But I didn’t want to open it without getting information from you, can you help me? All the changes I made are in the screenshots below.

Close screen command in Screens > Commands
su -c “am start -a android.intent.action.ACTION_REQUEST_SHUTDOWN”

Displays > Display Settings;

Displays > Display > Edit > Settings

@israt.farzana Hi, any news, I need to solve this problem, can you help me?

hi @Gorkem_Aslan

I suggest you to open a topic related to your case, this would be the right way to use the community platform.
From my experience sending command works well with Philips display but never used other devices.

Hey, could you please share your Android Player version and the type of device you’re using? It’s possible that the command you’re sending isn’t supported by your device.

Our server with xibo cms installed is a windows based server, could the problem be caused by this? We talked to hosting and we cannot activate port 9505 for the server.

I created a new thread yesterday and the days before but no one responded.

I replied to your post for better traceability. I Cannot Send Commands to Android Screen with Xibo CMS
