I am currently evaluating Xibo for a digital signage project and would like to clarify if Xibo can fulfill all of my requirements.
What I need is:
A layout with tiles (images/graphics).
When a user clicks (on a touchscreen) on one of these tiles, it should open a specific website/URL.
The ability to automatically rotate ads (for example, every 15 seconds a new image or tile is shown).
Central management of multiple displays.
From what I’ve seen, Xibo is excellent at scheduling and rotating content, but I am unsure about the interactive part (clickable tiles opening a webpage).
Is this possible with Xibo out-of-the-box, or would it require a workaround (e.g. embedding HTML with links)?
Also, has anyone here already solved something similar? If yes, I’d be very grateful if you could share your approach or give me some guidance.
You will need version of Xibo CMS 4.3.0. In layout editor there is a new module implemented called “interactive” which should give you ability for navigation through layouts.
There you can build your start layout UI touchscreen navigation page to link to new layout with webpage and then route back to original start layout UI or extended navigation.
For more complex or in layout module/playlist navigation I have not tested this new interactive function.
That sounds great!
Can such a fully configured screen also be accessed via a web browser? That is, without a special player/viewer, but rather via a link?
Sharing displayed layout/view is pretty wide question,
No, Xibo player does not display Default Layout via browser ( there are other ways to share that display screen but thats outside the scope of question )
Xibo CMS on other hand has in browser design layout preview which you can access via browser, maybe with some hacking you could display it as browser link.
Also note that you can implement custom html/js in html module and use something outside Xibo CMS to manage display of content I.E. picture/video gallery from webpage and show it also in web browser hosted from player with httpd as in reveal.js
