Best Android box: Suggestions?

Hi,

I’m looking for an android box for a simple installation with a HD (1920x1080) TV. I know that there have been some topics about that but the hardware world is changing fast. So what’s your thoughts today on this topic?

Tnx!

You can check our recommended android hardware list - Recommended Android Hardware

Thank you Peter. I know about this topic but, as i said, the world of hardware is running fast and the minix Z64 with Android is almost unavailable (I’ve found some but they are expensive (2 to 3 times) compare to the windows version) here in America and I can’t find the DS Devices anywhere. So that’s why I asked anyway …

There are some minix Neo with android here but some people seems to have minor issues with them.

Regarding DSDevices, you’d need to contact them directly - http://www.dsdevices.com/

Interesting but I work in a public school and it is very hard to buy online. I would rather find something local.

Have you done Testing the Minix Neo X8 device?

Also can ask you if your recommend a platform over another (window/android)?

We actually have a computer with windows running our setup (ver 1.7.8) and the player as to be restarted every now and then so we are not to sure about the windows platform …

We have tested the X8-H and it isn’t on our recommended hardware list. It wasn’t stable at all in testing.

The devices we are happy to recommend are on that list - there are no others we are happy to recommend.

Dear George,

You can have a look at below device also.

Have been able to run xibo on it. You could also look towards windows 10 based stick devices. We have been running almost 50 units of them without much issues. Its almost the from the same manufacturer of meegopad,

except that its branded different.

It’s not a great option but we’ve made use of Amazon Fire TV sticks. We had to setup a secure invisible WIFI SSID and VLAN to keep it separate and not visible to Staff/Students (Xibo app re-appears every 5 minutes so it’s not like they could watch a movie even if they did access the device). And the app had to be side-loaded using ADB. And it is a pain to enter in the necessary details and secrets using that remote. But management refused to listen when I wanted to buy $100 computer on a stick or a full $200 slim computer to fit to the back of the TV. They wanted it to be as cheap as possible. $50 (stick + xibo license) per TV was the best I could give them.

Also on the con side of things, it’s not officially supported hardware. So any problems are all on us to solve.
