Hello,
I’m about to do an upgrade from 1.7.9 to the latest version.
Is that advisable?
or do i need to upgrade to specific version first?

Thank you for your message and welcome to the Community n.carr!
It is not recommended to upgrade straight from 1.7.9 to the latest version, which is at the time of this post 2.1.1. First it is recommended to upgrade to 1.8.13, then once you know the upgrade was successful, now upgrade to 2.1.1.
I am sure you are already aware but please do make sure you backup your database and Media Library prior to each upgrade, just in case you encounter an issue and need to roll back. It is also important to make sure the 1.8.13 upgrade is working before you proceed with the next upgrade to 2.1.1.
