Hi everyone,

We are thrilled to announce the latest CMS release, Xibo v4.3.0. The codename for this version is “Metcalf”.

23P/Metcalf is a periodic comet in the Solar System. First discovered on 20th July 1847, the comet was rediscovered on the 21st August 1919 by Joel Hastings Metcalf.

What’s new in Xibo 4.3.0?

Xibo 4.3.0 introduces exciting new functionality and enhancements.

Interactive updates

Interactive has a reimagined flow which introduces Interactive Mode for creating your actions, and where actions can now be created by simply dragging an arrow from the target to the trigger. We have also introduced three new interactive widgets which can be found in the ‘Interactive’ tab in ‘Widgets’, which includes a Button widget for simple interactive button creation.

Feedback collection

The floating help button at the bottom right of your CMS has been re-imagined to offer more information about your CMS, and an area for you to leave feature requests and product feedback from within your CMS.

Welcome page updates

The Welcome Page (available by clicking ‘reshow welcome’ from your User Profile in your CMS) has been updated to offer instant access to training and walkthrough videos, directly within your CMS.

PHP 8.4

In Xibo’s commitment to ensuring the CMS is running as smoothly and securely as possible, we have upgraded to PHP 8.4 - the most up-to-date version available.

Enhancements

4.3.0 introduces over 20 fixes and enhancements.

The minimum version of PHP needed to run the CMS is PHP 8.1.

Please note: Xibo 4.3 does not require ZeroMQ/ZMQ dependencies for the web container, making it easier to install for those of you not using Docker. See the Apache/IIS notes for more information.

Players

We recommend using player software of the same version as your CMS. The latest player software is available here.

Earlier versions of the player will connect to a v4 CMS in legacy mode.

Please note: Xibo for webOS and Xibo for Tizen players require v3 R308 and above to function with a v4 CMS. View the latest player software here.

Cloud hosted

If you have a cloud hosted CMS and have not opted out of minor version updates, this update will be applied to all v4.2 instances with the release of 4.3.1 coming soon. You can manually upgrade earlier from My Account.

Installed 4.3.0 with podman-compose as root, seems to run. will test this week.

DESIGN/Layouts

Under CMS menu, usual “Default Layout”, there is none set on new installation on 4.3.0 ?

If question does not fit here, please move it.

Process: Importing new layout from older instance.

Is there a way to import new layout into new CMS installation, validate it and enable it instantly(auto publish) without actual process of going into:

  1. CMS designer view
  2. then checkout template popup
  3. then publish layout and finally then to be able to go to
  4. CMS display view to authorize display and
  5. assign this new imported layout to display ?

I did some more podman-compose test installs and just saw that last test install had “Default Layout” present in Design/Layouts as excpected !
