Web CMS new release

Dear support and/or community,

Maybe you have answered this question alot of times and maybe not.

I searched alot of your help pages, however I can’t seem to find the web files for the newest release.

I don’t have alot of experience with dockers, do I need to see it as some kind of archive?
We (CoolSafety) would love to upgrade our xibo web cms, the new clients don’t seem to work with the cms anymore.

When I try to connect, they produce the error got plain/text and was expecting xml (if I remember correctly).
So they’re not able to connnect and sync.

https://www.xibo.org.uk/manual/en/manual_install.html
In this guide is explained how to install it, however the 1st step tells me to “download the archive and extract it”.

When I download the cms, it’s always a docker and I’m honestly not able to find an “archive” beside it,
unless as stated before the docker is actually the archive.

If the docker isn’t a archive, how’d I install it then?

My apologies if I overlooked something obvious.

Thx in advance,
Marnix Mulder

There are two ways to install 1.8 series CMS.

Docker and manual/custom installation similar to earlier releases.

On our main webpage the link to download the CMS is only for docker, there should be link to non-docker archive in the instructions for manual/custom installation, but I believe we’ve missed that, it will be added with the new release.

All CMS releases can be found on GitHub - https://github.com/xibosignage/xibo-cms/releases/tag/1.8.2
xibo-docker.zip - for docker installation
xibo-cms-1.8.2.zip - for manual/custom installation

If you’re upgrading your current CMS, then instructions for that are here - https://www.xibo.org.uk/manual/en/upgrade.html

You can opt to switch to docker or continue with manual/custom installation, in the later case you will need to make few additional configurations steps described here https://www.xibo.org.uk/manual/en/install_environment.html + XTR/XMR.

Additionally I’d suggest upgrading to 1.8.2 from 1.7.9, as that’s the most tested route, if you’re currently running earlier version, then please do the upgrade to 1.7.9 first.

Thank you Peter for the fast reply.

Your response has given me a better insight to my problem.

Since I’m able to install it due to your github link,
I consider this thread closed.

Maybe it’d be a good idea to pin this topic untill the new release comes out,
so it gives everyone clarity regarding this topic.

Thanks alot,
Marnix Mulder
