Start and expiration dates attached to content. Not playlist, widget or container

Introduction

Have content start and end times attached to the content. Not the playlist they are in.

User Story

We have the need to attach expiration dates directly to the content. I have been using the start and end times for content in the timeline view on our 2.0 server and it works well but a major part of our existing workflow in our current production CMS has the feature to attach the expiration date to the content itself. So regardless of what playlist, layout or widget the content is in and regardless of how many its in, the content will start and end at a specified date and time.

There are instances where one video will be in 10 playlists and will have to start and end its broadcast run at the same time. Editing those dates and times for that one video across 10 playlists is a lot of work.

Thanks

Thank you for your post.

We have plans to support the removal of media on expiry, would this be sufficient for your needs?

Hi are there any plans to add a start date to the individual media content files? This work work in the same way a s the expiry date feature.

This would be very useful when using the dynamic content features, meaning you could use 1 tag across multiple site individual playlists and pre load the media in advance of the start date so that it would follow on once another piece of media has expired. Example of use, convenience stores 3 weekly ever changing product promotions.

Many thanks

Jason

Thank you for your comments, we do not have plans to add start dates to media on upload to the Library, we will however add start/end dates to media files uploaded to Layouts as mentioned here:

Reiterating the importance of the ability to have a “Starts” date for media in the library in addition to the “Expires” date.

We extensively use dynamic playlists in our Xibo implementation which allows us to simply manage media without having to make adjustments to layout/playlist.

Ideally, it would be great to have a “Starts” date associated with media to coincide with the “Expires” date. This would simplify the media management side and allow us to upload and schedule media without having to adjust the layout/playlist/schedule.

The dynamic playlist would only use media that meets these date criteria in addition to the other criteria specified (e.g. tags). The default value would be “Started” similar to the “Never” associated with the Expires field.
