Hi guys,
i am trying to make a repeating schedule for 3 of my screens as following,
Repeat ever 1 minute
Start date today
Start time 14:00
End date today
End time 14:01
Repeating per minute
Repeat every 1 minute
Once i click save,
system freezes and if i after waiting too long see it finally i have then way too many recurring icons which probably is the reason for freezing.
What am i doing wrong??
why do we have too many icons, does repeating every minute supposed to work?
When you create a repeating Event, it will create an Event icon on the Calendar for each repeat of the Event. For example, if you create an Event that is set to start at midnight and repeat every hour, there will be 24 individual repeat icons for each day on your schedule.
With the Event that you are creating, there will be an icon for every minute of the day until the end of the Event. This is why you have a large number of icons on your Schedule Calendar.
I created an Event similar to the one you described but for 2 Players instead. The CMS took some time to create the icons for the Calendar, but this is to be expected considering the large number of repeats that it is being asked to create. I also noticed that on my CMS (1.8.11) that it did not freeze but instead displayed the loading cog icon next to the Select Displays box above the Calendar.
Once the CMS has finished creating the Schedule, the icons appeared on my Calendar, which is what you would expect to happen. The Layout is also scheduled and displaying correctly on my Players.
If you would like to schedule a Layout to repeat constantly, I would recommend setting the Dayparting option in the Event to Always. This way, you will only have one icon on your Calendar for each day.
If you would instead like to set the Event to repeat every minute, then the large number of icons is what you would expect to see.
If the Layout is not Displaying correctly, please let me know.
Hi Dan,
yes, you are correct loading icon is displayed but the problem is, it takes way too long to load it (waiting for 3 minutes and still loading).
The repeating should not create more than one icon IMO no matter is it per minute or per day because creating too many icons will always be problem and will never load fast and in most cases the browser will crash.
“If you would like to schedule a Layout to repeat constantly, I would recommend setting the Dayparting option in the Event to Always. This way, you will only have one icon on your Calendar for each day.”
Not sure how this is going to help if i want to display every minute?
There’s no difference between a layout that is set to repeat every 1 minute, and one set to show all the time (except you’re making the CMS and Player work 100x harder to achieve the same output).
The layout will just repeat automatically when its scheduled all the time, based on its total duration. Where you have a repeat every 1 minute, it’ll do exactly the same thing.
You just need a single schedule, with a start and end time. Xibo takes care of the repeats for you.
You only use a repeat when you need a gap between times that the layout should run (eg every day between 8am and 5pm)
Hi Alex,
I have other layouts to be shown as well that is why every 1 minute.
I should probably shorten the loop by removing some of the layouts and then add it as standard schedule.
Assuming you have your every 1 minute schedule in, that won’t cause that layout to run at the top of every minute. It just means that when a layout finishes, that layout along with all the others will be considered for playback.
You’re correct though, you would be much better off making a campaign and scheduling that if the ordering of the layouts is important, otherwise just schedule them all either Always, or between 8am and 5pm or whatever and Xibo will show them in fair rotation.
Hi Alex,
i can’t use campaign because my layouts has different schedule periods.
I have now been trying to remove the schedule which i have created to be shown every minute. 2 hours has gone and haven’t been able to remove it because of these too many icons, browser keeps giving time out and won’t let me remove it.
You’d need to delete that schedule from the schedule table in the database, then clear the CMS cache by deleting the contents of the cache directory in the CMS library.
It might well be quicker and easier to restore an earlier database backup.
