PC Desktop streaming to Android Xibo

OK, so i am at the end of my rope with this project and really need some help. I have searched Google for 2 days at work and have not been able to find a program that will do 100% what i need, so I am hoping you fine people can help me.

What I am trying to do:
I have 5 different reports I was trying to run through Xibo but it will not load even through the default browser on android since it was not a supported format. So, I moved on to desktop capturing programs to stream the predetermined areas of the desktop to Xibo, how ever I have not found a streaming program that will output the preferred video file android or xibo likes. iSpy worked really well but it would not load on the default browser or in xibo. If I access the URL in Firefox it will show with out any issues. My company wants the TV’s to cycle through the 5 different reports in real time, so xibo work for this, but I just have to find something that works.

Conclusion: I need to find a desktop streaming program that will work with Xibo Android (Prefer it to be open source or free since my company is already upset about money and time spent on this project).

When I use iSpy and add the feed to Xibo (Local Video or Website) I get the following errors even in the Windows Client

UI Thread|12/1/2015 5:14:26 PM|Error|MainForm - ChangeToNextLayout|Layout Change to C:\Users\Tech\Documents\Xibo Library\13.xlf failed. Exception raised was: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values.

VLC can do screen capture and output to an rtsp URL that Xibo for Android can read. As far as I know that should work.

It’s not something we directly support - so I can’t give you detailed directions, but hopefully it’s a push in the right direction.

Alex,

Thank you for the push in the right direction. I have still not been able to get it 100% functioning on Android or Windows, but I will mess with it some more and figure it.

So, I got the stream to display on Xibo using VLC, however the feed is glitching. After a moment it will smooth out then do it again about a minute later. If I open VLC on a PC, the stream is smooth. Is there something I am missing on the Xibo/android end to make the stream smooth? Is there special setting I have to use for VLC to make it smooth? Not really sure if you can even help me.

What duration have you put on the LocalVideo media item?

Alex,

I have 4 RTSP feeds running on the local video module. They are all set to 120 seconds so they cycle through the different desktop feeds. I thought it may have been a bandwidth issue so I ran 1 at a time and still am having the same issue. If I load the feed into VLC is runs smooth, so I am thinking it has something to do with the way the feed is getting to android or Xibo. If I install Xibo on my Windows PC it will not even load the feed so I was unable to test it that way.

Strange. I run a rtsp feed in to a LocalVideo media here and don’t see any glitching. Have you tried perhaps lowering the bitrate of the stream to see if that helps?

Alex,

I have been messing around with the FPS, Cache times, Bitrate, and the codec. Nothing seems to be working. I also noticed VLC has a anti flicker filter, but this also did not help. Im running Xibo on a Minix Neo X8H Plus and the specs on it seem like this should be able to do what I need. Both the CMS and the clients are on 1.7

Quad-Core Cortex A9r4 Processor with Octo-Core
Mali 450 GPU. 16GB eMMC. Android 4.4 Kit Kat.

The X8 range never got on our recommended hardware list because we weren’t happy with the quality of the firmware Minix released for it - so it’s possible the issue lies therein.

Without another device being able to consume that stream it’s hard to say for sure though.

Alex,

Thank you for all of your help. I am now looking into just doing auto desktop screen shots and hosting a website with the images on it. This should be easy enough.
