Function of xibo?

Hello Guys,

can anybody tell me the function of CMS and player. Important for me is the technical know how.

How will be the communication between CMS and player?
How will be screen a content on the layer? Which data are needed?
Is a XML file responsible for the Representation?

I need a good explanation of the technical function of xibo.
