Feature Request: New Browser engine for Player

For the original poster (OP) to fill in:

Introduction

The xibo player uses an old browser engine, which is officially outdated (see https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/all/internet-explorer-is-it-being-phased-out/eadfd8a8-4c0b-4058-af0f-914159214868). Therefore many webpages can´t be displayed partly or fully - this board is full of reports.
It would be mandatory to switch to a open source / current web rendering solution.

Example open source html renderer: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Gecko

User Story

I´m trying to display a simple icinga2 dashboard, which can´t be displayed with Internet Explorer because Windows with IE and Edge is not supported since SSE (Server Sent Events) are not implemented (see https://github.com/dnsmichi/dashing-icinga2/issues/47#issuecomment-374166481).

Thank you for posting!

We have tried a CEF integration before which we found to be very unreliable and crash-prone, and so we hope to release a Player with support for Edge rendering in the future.

Thanks, but edge rendering would be also a very big problem as microsoft is creating a complete new browser on chromium technology and edge will be discontinued.

Assuming Microsoft port the controls we’re using to their new version of Edge then in time it will be Chromium based.

We have edge released in this player now: Xibo for Windows v2-edge R201
