Dynamic display group within a hierarchy

Issue

More of a question than an issue. If I create a dynamic display group, this group is not available to be a member of a higher (ancestor) group. If I change the display group to included selected members, the group is visible to be added as a member of the higher group. Why is a hierarchy not possible with dynamic display groups?
