Android or Windows client?

Hello,

we´re planning to replace our existing Digital Signage system with XIBO. In the last few days we discussed heavily about the advantages of the both OS-Systems which can be chosen for the client. But we have come to no result.

If the cost per client is no issue, what would be your suggestion?

Thanks
Robin

Hi Robin,

I’d say android then.
You can have a look at our list of recommended android hardware.

And here, under ‘feature comparison’ you can see main differences between windows and android clients - http://xibo.org.uk/about/

Windows client is distributed under open source AGPLv3 licence, so you can try it for free.
Android client comes with built-in 14 days trial licence, so you can do some testing on your own as well.

Hi Peter,

thank you for your answer. We came to a importaint question, I hope you can answer this, too. Is there any possibility to remotly monitor the Android-Clients? E.g. global system-updates, system state, etc…

Thanks
Robin

Client connects to the CMS each collection interval to exchange information (download new content/schedule and update status/stats etc to CMS)

You can see your device’s status, current layout in CMS-> displays page.
On that page you can also request a screenshot, which will take a screenshot on your device and send it to the CMS.
On statistics page you can see what was displayed for how long etc.
You can also configure maintenance and email alerts - so it will send you an email when your display goes offline/online.

Other that all that, you can still use remote connection, it’s not built-in at the moment and in most cases would require rooted device, but certainly is possible as well.

I’m used http://www.teamviewer.com/ and http://gotoassist.com/ without rooted devices.
