trying to add the currency or stocks module as the yahoo finance one no longer works

however, I cant see the option to add more modules in the modules are, all I see is validate existing ones?

apologies, this is on version 1.7.9 and I have noticed my other install at another site has option to add some modules, but only the defunct finance one and two others, nothing else?
The Currencies and Stocks module relies on the Yahoo API to function. Yahoo removed those parts of the API, so the modules for 1.7 series are broken now.
The modules shipped in 1.8.3 are fixed and use a different data source. I don’t think there will be a fix for the 1.7 series modules now I’m afraid. The 1.8 modules won’t work on a 1.7 series CMS.

presume I can upgrade to newer version easily enough?
1.7 to 1.8 is a fairly major upgrade - mainly in terms of the environment required. You need to read the upgrade notes in the manual for all the details.
