1.8 Alpha3 - Statistics

Any news on statistics working correctly in 1.8 yet? I have the 1.8 Beta, but I am thinking this is non-functional still at this time.

The last time we looked together was here and it might be better to continue on there instead.

Essentially I still believe they should work and @Peter is working on adding a concrete test to the test suite
